Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 3.4lbs (1.5kg) a month or 41lbs (18.6kg) a year by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.

Spend Time Outside
I will replace 15 minutes each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyYour utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?
Kellye Dundon 10/31/2024 10:36 AMIncreasing our thermostat temp in the summer to reduce electricity used for AC-
Patrick Shamel 10/31/2024 9:34 PMNot trying to piggyback (maxed out on actions) but wanted to respond to the question, lol. No AC here so summers can be brutal at times but tolerable for the most part. I use my air fryer to do a lot of the cooking instead of the oven. In the winter, the heat is rarely turned on unless it's absolutely needed. Ambient heat from cooking/lights/tv and heavy blankets/warm clothes will suffice. It's easy enough to tolerate but I would probably change my tune if I lived with a roommate/family/etc.

Kellye Dundon 10/22/2024 4:28 PMGreat job everyone! Let's keep it up in the second half of the challenge! Don't forget, you can always go back and check your actions from previous days if you missed any. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteReducing your paper mail can reduce mental clutter as well as physical waste -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
Kellye Dundon 10/11/2024 8:49 AMgoing paperless helps keep the clutter out of our house and is a stress relief. One less thing to clean -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Kellye Dundon 10/10/2024 7:04 AMI am in PGE territory, so it has more natural gas generation and coal compared to other electric utilities in the state. There is more thank 3 times the coal generation than solar (which would probably surprise people). This makes conservation even more important because of the environmental impacts of power plants. You can check your energy mix for your utility on the Oregon Department of Energy website here: State of Oregon: Energy in Oregon - Electricity Mix in Oregon -

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityFresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?
Kellye Dundon 10/02/2024 8:55 AMTaking a walk at lunch helps me refocus and jump back into work for the afternoon-
Audrey Pulliam 10/02/2024 9:11 AMHey Kellye! I do something very similar, I take a walk before and after work. I walk to the lake and back to get as much nature as I can in a concrete jungle! Sometimes I'll make a pit stop at my grocery store too (saves me the drive over for a bigger trip)
