Eric's actions
Simplicity
Less Screen Time
I will replace 30 minutes of screen time each day with other activities.
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Do at Home
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate. I will keep 1 containers out of the landfill each day.
Health
Reduce Refined Sugar
I will adopt a diet free of refined sugars, which eliminates sweetened beverages, candy, and processed foods.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meals and/or 1 vegan meals each day this week.
Community
Volunteer in My Community
I will volunteer 10 hours in my community during the challenge.
Simplicity
De-Clutter My Home
I will de-clutter, clean, and donate or recycle unneeded items in my home.
Water
Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
I will prevent water runoff and increase absorbency by mulching the base of plants and trees at my home or work.
Share My Why
Share My Why
I will share my Ecochallenge story and why I'm taking action for the planet.

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityWhat did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?
Eric Leatham 10/29/2024 10:26 AMWasn't hard to change but had to get out of the rut that we were in. Sat outside, looked at stars and enjoyed pool and hot tub more. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?
Eric Leatham 10/29/2024 10:24 AMBring our own cups and straws to fast food restaurants. No longer use produce bags and nearly always use reusable shopping bags. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityHow can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?
Eric Leatham 10/29/2024 10:20 AMOur new thought process is that we have to have a place to store any new item and that helps us decide if we really need it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Eric Leatham 10/29/2024 10:17 AMWe live in a new area and this push to get out and explore has been so much fun. We've seen several new places and tried some new activities.
