    Nature
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?

I think that spending more time outdoors can enhance your sense of place by being able to connect with your environment, observing the way it moves, and feeling the way we ourselves fit in with our surrounding. It helps create a sense of community and belonging within the world and on this planet. I feel that involving yourself in nature can also bring up a lot of memories and emotions making it meaningful and significant.

How does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?

Because food sovereignty gives communities the right to control their crops and food systems like markets, cultures and methods of production, they are able to manage the shift from local food systems to modern and global scaled food systems. Promoting sustainable practices, local economies, and keeping food traditions and culture alive helps communities address the huge transitions they must go through while maintaining origins.

The daily action I chose was to take 5 minute showers. At first I didn't think I took showers much longer than 5 minutes, but after just 2 days I am starting to realized just how short 5 minutes really is... I would definitely said that so far it has been difficult, but it is only day 2, so I am keeping a positive mind! It has also been really nice to see just how much water I am saving with each shower I take. I already know that once this month is over, I will make sure to be more aware of how long my showers are! I hope that everyone is of to a positive start with their challenge as well!

    Water
Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

Some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems are things like fertilizers, pesticides, effect of improper chemical discarding, sewage discharge, storm water runoff, oil and fuel spillages, and plastic wastes, just to name a few. A few things we can do to help improve the health of our water systems is limit of use of fertilizers and pesticides, use non-toxic cleaning supplies, use water efficient appliances, (take 5-minute showers!!), support water health or conservation teams or volunteer for water health organizations in your area.
