Clay's actions

Waste

Compost Food Waste

I will avoid sending up to .42 lbs (.19 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.

COMPLETED 3
DAILY ACTIONS

Waste

Use Reusable Bags

If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.

COMPLETED 6
DAILY ACTIONS

Waste

Skip the Straw

Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straws out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

COMPLETED 11
DAILY ACTIONS

Water

5-Minute Showers

I will save up to 6 gallons (23 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.

COMPLETED 22
DAILY ACTIONS

Waste

Reduce Single-Use Disposables

Do at Home

Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate. I will keep 1 containers out of the landfill each day.

Something I'm really bad about doing is taking my own bag with me when I go to the store, or I go to the store directly after work to avoid having to drive more, but I don't think about taking bags with me when I leave for work in the morning. so to ensure I don't forget them, I started leaving reusable bags in my car to reduce the amount of paper bags I purchase at the store.

    Waste
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?

Instead of using single use cups when purchasing coffee, I've been taking my own reusable cup and straw to reduce what ends up in landfills and oceans.

This last week has been great. I have been really cognitive about my actions. Now that I'm really taking into consideration my water usage, I have been incorporating water saving tactics just through my daily life, like when I'm doing dishes or brushing my teeth. Ive also been making sure I take my own cup when I go out to get coffee to reduce the amount of disposable material I use.

How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

Personally, I can incorporate re using items such as straws, cups and bags rather than using single use items such as plastic straws and plastic bags. Also recycling single use items like cups and paper bags whenever possible to reduce the amount environmental resources used.
